Triangle BOREA BR09 Floorstanding Speakers Overview

The full review

How the Triangle BOREA BR09 Floorstanding Speakers performs, point by point

The details that matter when you're deciding — tested in our room, explained in plain language.

01

Sound and overall character

The first thing I noticed with the Triangle BOREA BR09 is how easily it fills a room. I didn’t have to lean on the volume knob to get them to open up, and they have that lively, forward energy that makes records feel a little more immediate and a little less polite.

They’re not the kind of floorstanders that sit back and blend into the wallpaper. Vocals and guitars come through with a bit of edge and presence, which I actually liked for rock, live recordings, and anything with some bite. If your system already leans bright, though, I’d be careful pairing them with other sharp gear.

What I appreciated most is that they sound awake without turning everything into a spotlight show. There’s enough body to keep things from getting thin, but the overall presentation is still more about speed, clarity, and energy than warmth or syrup.

02

Bass and low-end behavior

The BR09 has the kind of bass that makes sense in a real living room. It reaches low enough to give kick drums and bass lines proper weight, but it doesn’t come across as bloated or slow if the room isn’t fighting it.

I found they do best when they’re given a little breathing room from the wall. Push them too close and the low end can start to thicken up in a way that sounds less controlled, especially on boomy recordings. Give them space, and the bass tightens up nicely.

They’re not trying to fake subwoofer-level slam, and I think that’s the right call. For music listening, the bass feels tuneful and usable rather than exaggerated, which makes them easier to live with over long sessions.

03

Midrange, detail, and vocals

This is where the BR09 really earns its keep. Voices come through with a lot of shape and presence, and instruments like acoustic guitar, piano, and snare have a crispness that keeps the presentation from feeling sleepy.

I also noticed they’re pretty revealing without sounding overly clinical. Bad recordings still sound bad, of course, but good pressings and well-made albums get enough texture and separation to make me want to keep listening.

The midrange has a clean, open feel that works especially well with vinyl because it lets the character of the recording come through. If you like speakers that flatter everything equally, these may be a little too honest for you.

04

Imaging, scale, and room fill

The BR09 throws a convincing soundstage when they’re set up properly. I got the best results with a little toe-in and some space around them, where the center image locked in and the speakers disappeared better than I expected.

They also have the kind of scale that makes them feel like real floorstanders, not just tall bookshelf speakers wearing boots. In a medium-to-larger room, they can sound big without sounding sloppy, which is a pretty useful balance.

What stood out to me is how they keep things organized when the music gets busy. They don’t smear everything into one wall of sound, and that makes them easier to enjoy with dense rock, orchestral stuff, or anything with a lot going on at once.

05

Build, finish, and living with them

Triangle did a nice job making the BR09 look more refined than flashy. They have a clean, modern presence that doesn’t scream for attention, which matters if these are going into a real living room and not a dedicated listening cave.

They feel like speakers you can actually live with day to day. Nothing about them seems fussy, and once they’re placed and dialed in, they mostly get out of the way and do the job.

I’d still treat placement as part of the purchase, not an afterthought. These reward a little care, and that’s not a knock so much as the reality of getting the best out of a floorstander that’s meant to play big and open.

06

Who I’d recommend them for

I think the BR09 makes the most sense for someone who wants a lively, full-size speaker with real presence and doesn’t want to spend all day tweaking a system. They’re a strong fit for people who listen to rock, pop, live records, and anything that benefits from energy and clarity.

They’re also a good match if you want a speaker that can handle a larger room without sounding tiny or strained. I’d especially like them in a setup where the rest of the gear is smooth, neutral, or slightly warm to balance out their personality.

If your taste runs toward soft, laid-back, or ultra-forgiving sound, I’d look elsewhere. But if you want something that feels alive, open, and genuinely fun to listen to, the BR09 is very easy to take seriously.
