Polk Audio React Wireless Subwoofer Overview

The full review

How the Polk Audio React Wireless Subwoofer performs, point by point

The details that matter when you're deciding — tested in our room, explained in plain language.

01

Setup and Placement

The first thing I noticed with the Polk Audio React Wireless Subwoofer is that it’s trying very hard to be the easy part of a soundbar setup, and for the most part, it is. I didn’t have to babysit it much once it was paired, and that matters more than people admit when a sub is going into a living room instead of a lab.

What I liked most was how little fuss it asked for after the initial setup. I’ve dealt with plenty of wireless subs that act like they’re doing you a favor by working at all, but this one felt more straightforward and less temperamental in day-to-day use.

02

Low-End Performance

For movies and TV, the React sub does the job in the way a good wireless sub should: it adds weight, scale, and that little bit of pressure you feel in the room when a soundtrack actually has some backbone. It doesn’t turn everything into a fake earthquake machine, which I appreciate, because overcooked bass gets old fast.

With music, I found it best when I let it support the system instead of trying to make it the star. It gives kick drums and bass lines more body, but it’s not the kind of sub that makes me forget I’m listening to a compact home theater setup.

The overall character is more about filling things out than showing off. If your main complaint is that your soundbar feels thin or a little polite, this sub is the piece that makes the whole setup feel more complete.

03

Wireless Behavior and Everyday Reliability

Wireless subwoofers live or die by whether they stay out of the way, and that’s where this one matters. I care less about the idea of wireless convenience than whether I can turn the system on and just have sound happen, and this Polk handled that part like it should.

I didn’t run into the kind of annoying dropout behavior that can make a wireless sub feel like a bad idea in the first place. In normal use, it behaved like a proper component, not a gadget that needs constant attention.

04

Build and Living-Room Fit

The React sub looks like it belongs in a real house, not a demo room. It’s simple, understated, and easy to tuck into a corner or beside a media console without making the room feel like it’s been taken over by gear.

I also like that it doesn’t demand visual attention. A lot of subwoofers look like they’re auditioning for a gaming setup; this one is much more in the background, which is exactly what I want from something that’s mostly there to be felt.

05

Who It Makes Sense For

This is the kind of sub I’d point to for someone building a clean, compact Polk-based home theater and wanting more impact without a mess of cables. It makes the most sense when the rest of the system is meant to be simple, tidy, and easy to live with.

If you’re the type who wants deep, room-shaking bass for every movie night, you may eventually want something bigger and more ambitious. But for most people trying to make a soundbar setup feel less lightweight, this is the sort of upgrade that actually changes the experience in a noticeable way.

06

Value in the Real World

What I judge a wireless sub on isn’t just whether it sounds good in a quick demo. I want to know if it makes me enjoy the system more every time I sit down, and the React does that by adding the missing low-end foundation without making setup a project.

It’s not flashy, and that’s part of the appeal. I’d rather live with a sub that quietly improves everything than one that constantly reminds me it exists, and this Polk lands much closer to the former.
